Davangere is lying at the geographical centre of the state of Karnataka on NH-4, India. Since 15th August 1997 Davangere has been recognized as the District H.Q. Later it is upgraded as Davanagere City Corporation on 6th Jan, 2007 with a population of over Five Lakhs. Davangere was known as "The Manchester of Karnataka". The growth of Educational Institutions has now earned Davangere the name "The Oxford of Karnataka" as it were to compensate the set back that the Davangere city had experienced.
